THE POWER WORKERS UNION

The Power Workers Union (PWU) is the OH blue collar union, and is powerful. The PWU can theoretically shut down the Province of Ontario by pulling the nuclear reactor operators out on strike. Unfortunately, the PWU is not my union. I belonged to the Ontario Hydro white collar union, mis-named "The Society" for historical reasons.

The PWU is the main opposition to Management within the Corporation. Despite the major battles Management has had with the PWU, the Union is generally fairly moderate in its positions. The PWU has had quite a number of successes recently, and a lot of the credit goes to the President, John Murphy.

The PWU has been involved in Hydro-gate since early on, primarily with Janet’s assistance. The PWU helped take the case to Maurice Strong in December 1994. In comparison with some other players, the PWU has been distinctly ethical and supportive.
