BILL FARLINGER
Bill Farlinger replaced Maurice Strong as Chairman of Ontario Hydro in late 1995.
Previously, Bill Farlinger was Chairman or President of Ernst & Young, a major accounting firm. At the time, we thought Bills appointment was because he was a strong proponent of "privatization". However, Bill appears to have lost his interest in privatizing Ontario Hydro as time went on. He does not appear to have made a major impact on the Corporation, as did Maurice Strong.
The latest privatization effort by Bill (April 1, 1999) seems to have maintained the Ontario Hydro monopoly in generation, the key to Ontario Hydro. All the generation, the bulk of Hydro, remains in one unit, giving a natural monopoly.
While I was in OHT, Bill seemed to be a "Boy Scout", and we wondered if he really understood what was going on in the Corporation.
