DEREK CORNTHWAITE
Derek was hired as President of OHT after Don Mills departure.
Derek came in from Diversey, the Molson chemicals subsidiary that had a lot of financial problems. Derek had been President, and the Globe & Mail stated he had been fired. The Toronto Star stated that he had been given a $3.66 million pay-off. Derek had a Ph.D. in Engineering from Cambridge.
Derek definitely believed in "the smooth sales job", but OHT members were pretty cynical by the time he arrived. Over time, we saw less and less of Derek, even though he apparently spent long hours in OHT.
Dereks main contribution to Hydro-gate was to give me the "cease or desist" memo in early 1996. Derek "left" Ontario Hydro recently, long before his contract expired, and was replaced as President by Jim Brown.
