STAGE 18. OLRB (Ontario Labour Relations Board)

By the time I had collated all four hundred sheets of the Hydro-gate case, and printed up seven copies as requested, it was almost Christmas 1998. In early January, I sent the case to the OLRB.   OLRB1

The OLRB sent me back a letter in early March, saying that they would have a resolution by May 21st. A week letter, they sent me back another letter, saying that they had reviewed the case, and had refused my appeal. That was quick, especially considering there were 400 pages to peruse. Sounded to me like the OLRB had dropped the case like a ton of bricks. OLRB2, documents/olrb_2_2.gif

Later, Mr. Darrah gave me his valued opinion.

"You can sue Hydro now, if you want, but it will cost you $50-100,000, and take a year. You will eventually win, but it will be grueling. Hydro has big lawyers lined up here, and it will cost the ratepayers $500,000, but Hydro doesn’t care. Hydro (read the Law Division) obviously want to keep the Arthur Anderson report out of court. They will take you to task on every detail, and I recommend that you find another route. How about the media again?"

Given Richard’s prediction record, this was probably true, and I’d already come to the same conclusion.

"How about a Web site on the Internet?"

Now we have worked our way through all the constraints: Corporation, union, government. We are "free", so as to speak.

Will we get sued, since Ontario Hydro’s usual approach is the legal route? It seems dumb to sue with a forged report, but this whole case strikes me as pretty dumb, and who knows with Hydro?
